"I don't know what to say... After months of sending out my headshot and resume and not hearing back, I actually got offers from 3 top agencies in my area after just a few weeks of sending out that cover letter. It was really like magic!

"I ended up signing with my top choice, and it has been fantastic so far. Thank you, Martin!"

 – Jackie R., professional actress based in Atlanta

"'Land an Agent' is a moment of 'I wish I knew this information 5 years ago.' It's straightforward, real info no-one else is going to share with you - especially not an agent.

"Martin takes you step by step through the process while explaining how to use every resource he provides to help you find and sign with a trustworthy and responsive agent rather quickly.

"I really enjoyed the incredible resources, industry secrets, and an approach I’ve never heard before. If you’re looking for a systematic way to land a great agent or manager, this is it."

 – Brian E., professional actor based in NYC

Why Finding a Great Agent or Manager is So Hard

"I feel like I'm staring through a window at all those opportunities other actors are getting, wondering, 'Where's mine?'"

You've been acting for a while now.

Every week you do your best to log on to Actor's Access or Casting Networks and submit yourself to projects that fit within your brand.

You've spent hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on a great headshot. You've invested years of your life acting for free to build a reel.

You may have even spent money to shoot professional footage for your reel.

You know that the ONLY thing separating you from major productions is representation – an agent or manager who can submit you for those professional roles.

But it feels like no matter how many times you send out your resume or attend showcases and workshops, you just don't hear back.

And it's so frustrating because you're doing everything RIGHT!

The only thing you're missing is professional credits. But how are you supposed to get them?

It's the biggest Catch 22 of the acting world:

To get professional work, you need an agent. But to get an agent, you need professional credits.

Hi, I'm Martin Bentsen.

Picture

You might have seen me speak at
NYU, Actor's Connection, or The Actor's Green Room. Or you might have taken headshots at my #1 Yelp and Google rated photography company called City Headshots.

I've had the opportunity to work with over 6,000 actors since 2009 when I started, and almost every week, someone asks if I know what they should do to get an agent.

How should I know? I used to think. I'm just a headshot photographer!

But soon, I started paying attention. I realized that most actors were so busy earning a living, paying their bills, training, and performing, that they had ZERO time to figure out how to position themselves properly so agents would want to represent them.

The industry hasn't been completely honest with you.

They say the process of finding great agents or managers can take years.

Years of showcases, pay to play auditions, workshops & seminars, one on ones, and more.

Years of building a resume, following up, and hoping to be in the right place at the right time.

Without a clear, step by step path to follow, many actors wind up spending a ton of their most precious resource - their time - hoping an agent or manager will eventually find and sign with them.

And even if that does eventually happen, within a few months they often realize that they're still not getting into the auditions they really want.

Most actors believe finding a hardworking great agent or manager is luck. But is that really true?

Do you really need years and years of experience? Years and years of networking? Years and years of training?

Do you really need a bunch of professional credits and footage of yourself in Law & Order speaking to Angie Harmon and Jerry Orbach?

And if you already have an agent or manager who's not a good fit, is it really true that there’s nothing you can do but wait out the contract?

The answer to all those questions is a resounding NO.

Picture
Picture
Picture

In fact, it’s absolutely possible to sign with a fantastic agent or manager WAY sooner than you think by becoming highly strategic and shifting your focus.

Plenty of hardworking and reliable talent reps work with actors who don't have resumes a mile long.

There are a few key things that, if done properly and with the right prep work, can get you signed by one of those dream reps.

And it can be done in just a few months (sometimes even weeks).

And don't worry... if you already have representation that's not a good fit, it’s completely possible to start the process of finding a new, better agent/manager before your contract ends (there are even ways to get out of your contract early).

In fact, there are just two things that make the biggest difference when it comes to landing a hardworking manager or agent who will give you the attention you deserve:

  1. A Solid Strategy
  2. Creating the Right First Impression

Key #1 to Landing a Great Agent/Manager:
A Solid Strategy

Most people who pursue goals focus on tactics instead of strategy. They have what's called Shiny Object Syndrome, where they keep looking for the next big idea or trick.

In fact, I used to have Shiny Object Syndrome myself and it kept me at a plateau in my business for almost six years!

Have you ever read articles like The 5 Fastest Ways to Get an Agent or 3 Unique Techniques to Connect with Casting Directors Through Instagram?

Articles like that get you pumped up for the moment, but after a few weeks of trying out the idea, you realize you're pretty much still exactly where you started, and so you decide to start looking for the next big idea.

Many actors looking for agents or managers just think about the end result of getting one – but they don't focus on WHO they want and why, and they don't build a specific strategy around connecting with them.

You don't want just ANY agent or manager. You want the RIGHT one.

You want a rep who will work hard for you. Someone who believes in you and wants to see you succeed (and someone who doesn't ONLY work with celebrities).

You want someone who will take meetings with you and respond to your emails and texts. Someone who's going to do what's best for YOU, not just what's best for them.

Interesting Fact: did you know it's common practice for some managers and agents to sign almost anyone just to fill up their roster with a long list of actors so they look like they're in-demand – and then ONLY spend time working with the 5-10 actors they think have the highest probability of success?

Just because an agent or manager represents many actors does NOT mean they'll do a good job repping you. In fact, you should avoid signing with a manager who represents more than 20-30 actors because it means they won't have time to focus on you.

Why? Because the ones who work hard for their clients have to be discerning. Being a great rep takes time and energy, which are limited resources.

Finding the right agent or manager and proving you're worth their effort not only takes proper preparation – it also takes a solid, well thought-out strategy.

Key #2 to Landing a Great Agent/Manager:
Creating the Right First Impression

Did you know that many managers and agents decide who they'll work hard for – and who they'll put minimal effort into – just by the first impression the actor makes?

Once you've decided which agents or managers you want to target, how do you go about contacting them to ensure they'll not only sign you, but also want to help you succeed?

Do you mass mail your headshot and resume? Do you do a cold submission through their online submissions page?

Do you somehow find their email address online and contact them directly?

How you make contact can get you in for an interview and set the stage for success or lead to the disheartening, "Thanks, we'll let you know."

Or worse – it can get you to No Man's Land, where you're always wondering if they're submitting you (since they won't respond to your emails and keeping pushing you off to their assistant or someone else in the office).

The way you conduct yourself in the interview and the specific questions you ask can lead an agent or manager to instantly make a judgement on how much potential you have and how much time they should devote to you.

So how do you make the right first impression? What do you say, and how do you contact them in the first place?

I've found answers to all these questions and others:

For instance...

  • What do agents really want?
  • How do I make sure my agent is submitting me without annoying her?
  • What do I do if an agent says they love my stuff, but when I follow up I never hear back?
  • How do I avoid looking desperate to the agents I contact?
  • I already have an agent but want someone who's better – how do I start looking for a new agent without angering my current one?

The simple, 4-step system I've developed answers ALL these questions and more.

It all
starts by laying out a solid strategy to help you find reliable and hardworking agents and managers.

It then moves into ensuring you make the best possible first impression so they feel compelled to sign and work HARD for you.

And now, I'm excited to introduce you to...
Picture

Land an Agent is a comprehensive digital course that lays out an easy to use 4-step strategy to find and sign with a great talent agent (or manager) and get them to work HARD for you – in just a few months (or even weeks).

Since it's digital, you can take it from anywhere in the world and at your own pace. You'll have lifetime access so you can come back to it for a refresher at any point in the future.

Land an Agent will give you the tools you need to get in front of the right agents and managers, and will show you EXACTLY what to do to get them to WANT to represent you.

The key to being seen by the right casting directors for the right projects is to land an agent or manager who can get you in the room. And that's what Land an Agent is all about.

Land an Agent includes:

  • 4 info-packed modules with over three hours of video content and text that show you exactly how to find, contact, interview, and get signed by an agent you love – and then get that agent to submit you consistently for bigger and bigger roles.

  • An easy-to-follow strategy that gets results. Not only will you receive tons of great tactics and ideas, but they will be laid out in an easy-to-implement format that shows you exactly what to do, when, and in what order.

  • A special, private Vault filled with word for word email templates to contact agents, sample questions to ask agents in meetings to impress them, and even additional bonus videos including in-depth interviews with represented actors and agents in the industry.

A Layout of the Course:

Land an Agent outlines the step by step formula I've used over and over to help actors find great agents in just a few months (or even weeks) and turn them into their biggest cheerleaders – reps who want to get them out there as much as possible.

It works:
  • Even if... you don't have a long list of credits on your resume and no industry contacts.
  • Even if... you have zero social media presence and no website.
  • Even if... you're non-union and unclear on your type or brand (you'll discover your brand in Module 2).

And don't worry:
  • There's no cold calling or awkward sales tactics involved.
  • You won't have to mass mail out hundreds of resumes and headshots at the risk of appearing needy and desperate.
  • You won't have to attend endless seminars and classes, hoping to get an offer at some point down the road.

How it Works:

The course is broken into four modules and a Vault that will be opened to you every few days over the course of two weeks.

Why over two weeks? Because I've found that if all the modules are made available immediately, people don't implement what they've learned properly.

I want you to take real action on the material, which is why I designed the course this way.

Here is a layout of the course:

Module 1:
Understanding Representation

The first module dives deep on agents and managers so you're knowledgeable on the subject and aren't going in blind.

You'll learn what they really want, how they work, and how to find someone who's right for you – a manager or agent who actually works hard to get you in the room..

Videos and Details Covering:

  • The top 9 traits that great agents & managers are looking for in the actors they represent, and how to quickly develop them
  • Why having an agent AND manager could actually hurt your acting career
  • When and with whom to sign, and how to determine whether signing or freelancing is the better option
  • The most important differences between agents and managers, and why those differences matter
Picture

Module 2:
Preparing for Representation

There's lots of prep work to do before contacting an agent or manager, including reviewing your marketing materials, getting clear on your brand, and ensuring your training and audition technique is on point. I'll guide you through each of these in detail in this module.

Videos and Details Covering:

  • Up-to-date resources with the contact information of all the top agencies in the industry
  • How to find out the real scoop on a manager or agent and know whether they are good or not before you even meet them
  • How to decide which agents/managers to target and know whether they will be right or wrong for you
  • My 9-step branding process... with a twist – even if you already know your brand, do you know how to turn it into something that inspires and energizes not only you, but the people around you? This is the Secret Sauce that allowed my client Tyrone to book his first ever Broadway role and land a great film/TV agent two weeks later.
  • The exact standards agents and managers are looking for in your headshots, resume, reel, and website (these are actually different than what most actors think)
  • An easy-to-use spreadsheet template to help you track the agents and managers you connect with over time – don't worry, this spreadsheet won't feel overwhelming!

Module 3:
Contacting Talent Reps

A few days later it will be time for the rubber to meet the road! When Module 3 opens, I'll show you the best ways to reach out to agents & managers to maximize the chances of them being interested in you.

We'll also discuss best practices for keeping in touch with them (and how to not get overwhelmed with remembering to follow up).

Videos and Details Covering:

  • Word for word email scripts, including cover letters to send, keep-in-touch messages, and even how to ask for introductions to managers or agents
  • Best practices to contact agencies and management companies directly – from exact email requirements to techniques that will help you never forget to follow up
  • How to easily make a fantastic first impression during a seminar or class that will cause a talent rep to remember you next time you reach out to them
  • 3 unique and outside-the-box ways to keep in touch that will make the agent/manager feel compelled to help you – in exchange for all you've done for them

Module 4:
Auditioning, Interviewing, & Managing

The final module will go into detail on how to interview and audition for agents (and managers) effectively. You'll also learn how to best work with them to ensure they submit you to the right projects and you get your money's worth from them.

Videos and Details Covering:

  • 4 simple but effective techniques to make the audition process way easier, especially if you feel nervous before auditions (these take less than 5 minutes to implement)
  • Tips to ace the interview, including what to say to impress the manager/agent and how to prepare for the 4 questions they'll probably ask
  • Exact steps to manage them effectively so they start submitting you for bigger and bigger roles - these tactics will make your agent/manager WAY more excited to submit you than they were previously
  • A friendly & professional way to end a relationship – whether things are going well or not – so you can find a new, better agent
  • The simple 6-step process you can follow once a month to continuously connect with more and more agents and managers over time so getting better and better representation will always be easy for you in the future

  • A few special bonus interviews with represented actors where they reveal the exact ways they landed their own agents and managers.

Access the Land an Agent course online instantly, from anywhere in the world.

I've designed this as an easy-to-access video course you can go through from the comfort of your own home, at whatever time is most convenient.

I know how busy and hectic your schedule is, and how difficult it can be to have a work/life balance as an actor.

For that reason, each of the videos is accessible 24/7 so you can watch at 3pm... or 3AM.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need to be in SAG-AFTRA or be SAG-Eligible for an agent?
Fortunately no. There are plenty of actors with agents who are completely non-union, and many of whom that are not even SAG-Eligible. Of course being a union actor can definitely make the process quicker, but being non-union is certainly not something that will block you from getting an agent. In fact, once you get an agent it can actually become easier to get into the union since they'll be submitting you to lots of union projects!

Does this course focus on both legit and commercial agents? How about theatrical agents?
The process of landing an agent is similar for any type of talent agent and the course will work well for all of them. Legit agents (both theatrical and film/TV) are very selective about who they represent, and this course goes into great detail on how to sign with them. Commercial agents are often easier to sign with than legit agents, but this course works for them too.

How is this different from all the free information I can find online?
Most info online about what agents want or how to land an agent is either too vague or can be misleading since it's so general. This is the only in-depth course specifically focused on showing you exactly how to find, sign with, and manage an agent, from figuring out who to target and what to say to them, all the way through to showing you how to keep in touch and make the most out of your time working together. You won't find this information anywhere else in as much depth, and it won't be laid out in an easy to follow, step by step system.

Will I have to spend a ton of time researching and filling out spreadsheets?
There is just one simple spreadsheet to fill out, and it's easy and quick. You'll probably spend an hour or two researching agencies, but not much more than that. Why? Because your number one goal is to take action. Figuring out who you want to meet is step one, but actually reaching out, interviewing, and auditioning are all just as important!

How long does it take to land an agent with this course?
For some actors it can take a few months. For most however, it usually just takes 6-10 weeks (especially if you already have some connections and/or credits and your marketing materials are looking great)! Just be sure that your acting is natural and you're well trained, otherwise no agent or manager will be interested in representing you – even if the material in this course gets you in the room to audition for them!

What if I'm already super busy and don't have time for another course?
It's understandable that you're probably super busy. Signing up for any new course can feel a bit daunting, and that's why I've spent a lot of time making this course streamlined and simple so that even the busiest actor can learn the material and implement it in just a couple hours per week. Everything is laid out in a simple, step by step format that's incredibly easy to follow. And remember - it's the people who prioritize properly who get ahead. Ask yourself, "Is landing an agent my number one goal right now?" If it is, I know you'll make it happen.

Is this an in-person or online program?
Land an Agent is a digital course you can access any time, day or night, from your computer. It consists of pre-recorded videos and text, along with homework assignments at the end of each module. After you place your payment, you'll instantly get access to Module 1 and the Vault, and then you'll receive an email from me every few days letting you know when the next module is available.

How much help will I get? Can I email you 1 on 1 if I get stuck?
Absolutely. I want to make the material in this course completely world-class, so I'm going to be updating it whenever someone contacts me with a question (at least for the foreseeable future). If you have a question that is not already answered in the course, feel free to reach out to me by replying to any of my emails and I'll respond to you with the answer and then update the course material so the answer is there for everyone else in the future!

What if your material doesn't work and I don't get any interest from agents or managers?
First off, know that it takes time and commitment to reach any important goal in life. But even so, I offer a 100% money-back guarantee that you can read more about further down on this page. You have 90 days to try out the material in this course with no risk. If you do the work and don't receive any interest or responses from agents or managers and want your money back, all you have to do is email me. There will be no hard feelings.

What if I don't live in the United States?
Although some of the technicalities might be different, the overall strategy and positioning remains the same. One of my clients who followed this course actually signed with an agent all the way across the world – in Australia – and it only took her 6 weeks! No matter where you live, the way you contact agents and connect with people is almost exactly the same. And if for some reason you follow the course and realize nothing is working, as mentioned I offer a 100% money-back guarantee, which you can read about a bit further down.

What if I'm left handed? What if I live in a studio apartment in Brooklyn? What if I don't like eating Cheerios for breakfast? What if...?
Be careful about asking too many "what if" questions. Our brains have a tendency to want to find an excuse to avoid doing things that push us beyond our comfort zone. As an actor, your job is to keep expanding your comfort zone, especially if you want to make it to the next level in your career. So make a clear decision for yourself: either Land an Agent is right for you or it's not. Remember: deciding one way or another is always better than not deciding at all!

"Am I Ready for This?"

The number one question I get from actors considering Land an Agent is whether they're ready.

  • "Am I actually ready for a great agent or manager? I might not be at that level yet."
  • "Do I deserve to be able to perform in those bigger film & television roles?"
  • "I have to work my way up the chain – no big agent or manager will want me because I don't have enough credits yet."

To the last point – it doesn't matter what "level" an agent or manager is at until you're so booked up with work that you want to start focusing on A-list agents.

What matters most is how hard they're willing to work for you and whether they actually care.

There are plenty of "big" agents who don't do much for their clients, just as there are plenty of "unknown" agents who keep their clients working day in and day out.

If you strategize properly and make the right first impression, you can find a rep who will work hard for you (regardless of the length of your resume).

Don't believe for a second that you're not good enough for a hardworking agent or manager to want to represent you.

Remember: no one is ever going to hand you a permission slip and say, "You are now ready."

You need to become the leader of your career and say, "I choose to move to the next level. I choose to figure it out and do what's necessary. Why? Because I want to become the best actor I can possibly be."

If you agree with that, then you're ready for Land an Agent.

My Personal Guarantee:
You'll receive positive responses and interest... or your money back.

Picture
I'm 100% confident that the material in this course works because I've used it with many other actors. That's why I don't want you to pay me if it doesn't.

My guarantee is simple: if you don't get an agent or manager interested in auditioning or meeting with you within 3 months of signing up for Land an Agent, you can ask me for a full refund.

Here's how it works:
Take each of the steps I outline in the course and do the work for 90 days. If at the end of that period, you've received no responses or interest from any agents or managers, just email me, show me you did the work and followed the course, and I’ll give you all your money back. I’ll even cover the credit card processing fees.

I can't guarantee your acting/auditioning ability, but I CAN guarantee that agents or managers will want to meet you and give you a fair shot if you follow this course.
Picture

If you're a hardworking actor and you take your career seriously, I want you to succeed. And if my material or services don't help you in reaching your goals, I don't want you to pay. I'd rather you take that money and invest it somewhere else.

I promise Land an Agent will show you the step by step roadmap to get signed by an agent or manager who will work hard for you, and that’s why I'm giving you a full 90 days to implement the material and see the results for yourself.

"Before I met Martin, I was just a 13-year-old girl with no clear acting goal trying to find my way through a sea of other actors. I didn’t understand how to get the doors to start opening for me.

Thanks to Martin's material, I received offers from four great agencies in six weeks and my acting future is so much clearer now.

Anyone can reach out to agencies, but what makes Land an Agent so beneficial is how specific Martin is and the confidence I get knowing that, when I follow his advice, I WILL get responses back.

 – Zariah Cain, actress & singer based in Australia

"I’ve been working as an actor for almost 2 decades and was searching for the right agent for almost three years.

"I had done a career consultation with a well-known Business of Acting Coach a few years ago and it didn't help, so I was skeptical. How would Martin's material be any different?

"All that said, I actually signed with a great film & TV agent in less than six weeks using the material and strategies outlined in Land an Agent. So I'd say that if you really need an agent to get the roles you want, you should definitely try out Martin's program."

 – Tyrone L. Robinson,  Disney's Frozen on Broadway
