I recently interviewed a past client for a case study, and you know what they told me? After their team added their headshots to their email signatures, they started getting about twice as many bookings on average from the emails they sent out.
They said that originally, for every 10 cold emails they would send to potential clients, they would hear back from 2 on average. Not bad!
But when they added their headshots into their email signatures, within the first couple of days, their responses went up to about 3 on average! Thats a 50% increase in responses!
They normally closed about 1.5 out of every 10 cold email conversations they had. And after their headshots were added? They closed about 2 out of every 10. But because the numbers combined, they had a multiplicative effect and their business went up a lot!!
To make all the math simple, here’s what happened:
Before Headshots: Closed about 3% of business from cold emails.
After Headshots: Closed about 6% of business from cold emails.
They doubled the number of deals they closed by just adding their headshots into their email signature, and they told me that their sales team would constantly get compliments from people saying how friendly and great their photos looked. One person even told them that normally when she gets cold emails, she would delete them right away, but because of the picture, she decided to actually read the email since she felt like it was coming from a “real person.”
I was blown away by that.
I knew the importance of a headshot, but I had never actually translated it into direct, physical numbers before.
Funny enough, I had never used a headshot in my own emails before, even though I’m a headshot photographer! And personally I didn’t want to deal with it because I didn’t know how to do the complex HTML coding necessary.
Well, after hearing about this business success, I decided to try it out. I Googled for a bit and came across the following website:
AMAZING (and free). Just fill in your info and it will generate a perfect email signature for you compatible with Microsoft Outlook or Gmail, and it can create HTML templates to use in other software like Apple Mail.
Well, after setting it up, within the first week, I noticed a significant increase in responses I would get from cold emails and messages in my mailing list.
CRAZY! People really respond to what I say more and I just feel excited to know that people are seeing exactly what I look like whenever I send a message to them now. Especially since I'm happy with my photo and it looks very professional.
So the question I have for you is, how would you feel sending out all your emails to casting directors, filmmakers, agents, and more with a professional picture of yourself attached? Do you think it would lead to more responses and more productivity in the long run?
Do you think it would be worth it? If so, and if you already have your professional headshot and you're happy with it, set this up TODAY.
