Back in 2016, my business was a mess. We were working with lots of clients for headshots each day, but we honestly could have been doing a lot more business… almost twice as much.
When someone would reach out to us for a quote or to find out more info, we would email back within a few hours, but if the client didn’t respond or they missed our message (or accidentally marked it as read), we would never hear back.
And this was happening about 30-40% of the time!
Now, granted, some of these people had decided not to book with us due to financial constraints or personal reasons, but others simply forgot or got busy with their daily life.
I’m sure this happens to you too! Have you ever went to an audition, and then after the fact they just didn’t email you back? And then you never actually found out what went wrong or what you could do better next time?
Well, I want to introduce you to another awesome (FREE) tool I use:

FollowUpThen is an automatic system that works when you BCC certain email addresses like email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. Or even email@example.com.
Believe it or not, I have a reminder for firstname.lastname@example.org, which repeats yearly and reminds me to buy an anniversary card or gift for my parents’ anniversary, which happens mid-October.
It’s crazy! You basically just get an email back from FollowUpThen on the date you pick saying, “It’s time to follow up.” And it contains the original message and who it was sent to.
It’s the perfect tool for work because you can essentially send an email to yourself on the day of an audition saying, “Follow up with this person if I don't get called back in.” And then you’ll BCC email@example.com and get a reminder email at that time to reach out to the casting director to follow up.
It’s a VERY simple way to keep organized for people who hate using their calendar or phone reminder software since sometimes those reminders get missed. I don’t enjoy complex technology and social media, so I think using a simple program like FollowUpThen is invaluable.
Send a blank email right now to firstname.lastname@example.org. They’ll email you back very simple instructions on how to set up a free account where you’ll get up to 50 followup reminders per month.
And then I highly recommend sending another email to email@example.com that says the following:
“Don’t forget to use FollowUpThen!”
This way it keeps reminding you to use it until it becomes a habit. Then when you're ready, you can just cancel that reminder.
